چکیده

Background Dymista (MP29-02*) is a novel intranasal formulation of azelastine hydrochloride (AZE) and fluticasone propionate (FP) in an advanced delivery system with a welldocumented effect on allergic rhinitis. Its somewhat bitter taste is probably derived from AZE, a potent histamineH1-receptor antagonist. The taste is sometimes looked upon as a disadvantage. However, it might be that AZE induces some of its beneficial effect through activation of bitter taste receptors. Recent evidence indicates that bitter taste receptors are present in human upper airway mucosa in regions associated with high airflow and particulate deposition. Consequently the MP29-02* effects might be due not only to its anti-histaminic, mast-cell stabilizing, anti-leukotriene, and anti-inflammatory properties but also as due to activation of bitter taste receptors.

Functional interaction between TAS2R receptors and G-protein alpha subunits expressed in taste receptor cells.

Bitter taste perception is a conserved chemical sense against the ingestion of poisonous substances in mammals. It could be mediated by G protein-coupled receptors that need the appropriate G proteins to transduce the signals. TAS2R receptors and a G protein α subunit, α–gustducin are believed to be key molecules for its perception (Margolskee, 2002; Montmayeur and Matsunami, 2002), but little ...

Oligomerization of TAS2R bitter taste receptors.

A family of 25 G protein-coupled receptors, TAS2Rs, mediates bitter taste in humans. Many of the members of this family are coexpressed in a subpopulation of taste receptor cells on the tongue, thereby allowing the possibility of receptor-receptor interactions with potential influences on their function. In this study, we used several experimental approaches to investigate whether TAS2Rs can fo...

A ricle Tuning Properties of Avian and Frog Bitter Taste Receptors Dynamically Fit Gene Repertoire sizes

Bitter taste perception in vertebrates relies on a variable number of bitter taste receptor (Tas2r) genes, ranging from only three functional genes in chicken to as many as approximately 50 in frogs. Humans possess a medium-sized Tas2r repertoire encoding three broadly and several narrowly tuned receptors plus receptors with intermediate tuning properties. Such tuning information is not availab...

Evolutionary relationships of the Tas2r receptor gene families in mouse and human.

The early molecular events in the perception of bitter taste start with the binding of specific water-soluble molecules to G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) encoded by the Tas2r family of taste receptor genes. The identification of the complete TAS2R receptor family repertoire in mouse and a comparative study of the Tas2r gene families in mouse and human might help to better understand bitter...
